Garden Marlborough

Garden Tour
Premier Tour

A new concept for those who perhaps haven't time to join us for the whole event, we will be visiting a selection of some of Marlborough's most renowned gardens. Two have been rated by the New Zealand Garden Trust as gardens of National Significance placing them amongst the top in NZ. This tour will be offering some little extras to make for a special day and includes lunch at 'The Store', Kekerengu.

Broomfield ~Garry and Kaye Green

The garden at Broomfield was planted in 1992 with a concept plan by Robert Watson. The unique design of the two-storeyed cob house is surrounded by gravel creating a European feel and wide herbaceous boarders flank a long sweep of lawn. Hedges of beech, macrocarpa and box have been used extensively throughout, and a productive potager provides fruit and vegetable throughout the season. Only available for viewing on this tour.

Upton Oaks ~Sue and Dave Monahan

The garden has been developed over many years around the 1911 Victorian Villa. It is divided into different areas by hedges and brick walls. A feature is the 17th century style knot garden, formed with buxus hedging and divided into sections by colours. Large perennial borders planted to flower from spring through to autumn. Plantings of berry fruits through to figs and guavas alongside raised vegetable beds provide an abundance all season. Rated as a garden of National Significance by the NZGT

Barewood ~Joe and Carolyn Ferraby

A classic potager features at Barewood, and brick paths edged with box and lavender divide beds of soft fruits, vegetables and flowers with old-fashioned apples and pears espaliered on iron arches. A garden planted to complement the century-old homestead with old roses encircling the verandah and prettily clambering over brick walls. A garden of national significance, plant connoisseurs will find much to inspire them.

Winterhome ~Richard and Sue MacFarlane

Winterhome features long vistas with interest at every turn and wonderful mass plantings including Mediterranean-type plants that thrive along Marlborough's east coast. Sensational Pacific Ocean outlook. This garden is structured and planted to have year-round appeal, with little regard for current garden fashion trends. This garden truly reflects the personality and passion of those who tend it.
